Match Day 7 now and no Friday games due to Wales playing Turkey in the Nations League at the Cardiff City Stadium. We have a limited program as well on Saturday with many of our clubs engaged in Dragon Signs FAW Trophy action.

Starting with the South West and we have two games both with 2.30pm kick offs. Evans & Williams travel to Seven Sisters Onllwyn for a tough game at the Welfare Ground. Last time out Evans & Williams were beaten 4-1 by Cardiff Corinthians at Stebonheath Park, a game that saw two home players sent off for second cautions. It hit them hard late in the game. The Corries had taken a 1-0 lead into the interval before increasing their lead shortly afterwards. Steff Vincent then saw Red, before Evans & Williams pulled a goal back through Bruno Forkuoh on 74 minutes, before a Corries penalty all but sealed the points. With Matthew Williams sent off after 79 minutes it was left to Corries to complete the scoring for a 4-1 win. This followed a disappointing 3-2 defeat at New Inn in The JD Welsh Cup, a Dylan Ashford double failing to save the day. However last Saturday in the Ardal League Cup, Evans & Williams were back on form winning 4-0, thanks to a Liam Samuel hatrick and a Jac Walters strike. Seven Sisters Onllwyn meanwhile have had a poor run, despite a good point against Pontardawe in their last league run out. A penalty from Captain Shay Isaac to equalise after 76 minutes after the home side had taken a 1-0 lead after 15 minutes saved the day. A long journey to Monmouth then saw a penalty shoot out defeat in the JD Welsh Cup, 5-4 after Owen Cartright had earned a 1-1 draw after 59 minutes to equalise a Monmouth goal after just 11 minutes at the Rockfield Community Centre. It was not to be though as Jordan Wood missed the vital spot kick. While last Saturday Seven Sisters Onwllyn exited the Ardal Southern Cup, beaten 3-0 at Cefn Cribwr, not helped by goalkeeper Morgan Selway being sent off after 42 minutes, when the score was only 1-0.

The other game on in the South West is Pontyclun hosting Swansea University at Ivor Park. Pontyclun will be looking for a win to kick start their season, remaining winless after 6 games although they have had three draws. Last time out in the league they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Cardiff Draconians, but fortunes have improved over the last two weeks on the cup front. Two weeks ago they were unlucky to lose on penalties at Goytre in the JD Welsh Cup after a 1-1 draw. Pontyclun had taken the lead through Jackson Acreman after just 4 minutes, but the home side equalised after 55 minutes and this is how the game remained to send it to penalties, which Goytre won 4-2. However last Saturday, Pontyclun produced their best performance of the season at Ivor Park to beat Morriston Town 5-1 in the Ardal league Cup. Jackson Acreman opened the scoring after 9 minutes, before Arjen Matthews added a second on 19 minutes. Morriston pulled a goal back after 20 minutes, but George Shrewing soon re-established the two goal advantage after 25 minutes, the scoreline staying the same at the interval. Two goals from Matthew Jacka (70) and Iestyn Stone (81) sealed the win. Swansea University are continuing to recover after their slow start under Jon Beale, and are currently up to 9th in the table. Two weeks ago they won a thriller 3-1 at South Gower, Josh Cole opened the floodgates after 27 minutes, adding a second after 34, before Aaron Rees scored a third a minute later. James Eynon brought a goal back for South Gower in first half injury time, but it was not to be as the second half was goalless. The following week, Swansea University squeezed through in the JD Welsh Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw home to Caerphilly Athletic, coming from a goal down at the interval to draw thanks to a Mason Kelly goal. They went on to win the shootout 6-5, despite missing their first two penalties through Josh Cole and Ollie Roberts, Dylan Williams, Dylan Perkins, Morgan Weaver, William Morrish, Warren Hudson and Harry Huddart scoring. While last week the University relied on penalties again after a 3-3 draw at Newport Corinthians, Dylan Perkins, Ollie Roberts and McCauley Power, scoring in 90 minutes before the visitors won 5-3 in the shootout, Dylan Williams, McCauley Power, Dylan Perkins, McKenzie Ace and Morgan Weaver successful from the spot.

Saturday sees three games in the South East, all kicking off at 2.30pm. Starting at the Rich Field, inform Brecon Corries take on Blaenavon Blues, 3rd place v 10th place in the league. Damien Daniels side are now unbeaten in six games and have been scoring for fun over the last three games. Last time out in the league they won 4-0 at Undy, Jack Biggs, Paul Keddle (2) and Matthew Tong on the scoresheet. While last Saturday in the Ardal Southern League Cup, they won 6-0 away at Treharris Athletic Western, Jack Biggs, Craig Evans, Paul Keddle, Matthew Tong (2) and Nyle Slade among the goalscorers. Meanwhile the visitors Blaenavon Blues have lost their last two cup games, but won 1-0 at Tredegar Town on their last league outing, Ben Williams the hero at the Leisure Centre in Tredegar. However in the JD Welsh Cup two weeks ago, Cardiff Corinthians were 4-1 winners at the Memorial Ground, despite 18 year old Kian Cook equalising early in the second half. However the visitors scored three further goals for a comfortable win in the end. While last Saturday Cardiff Corinthians were also the opponents in the Ardal Southern League Cup, this time triumphing 2-1 at Cwrt yr Ala Road, home of Caerau (Ely) with their ground unavailable. The Corries scored just before half time to go in 1-0 at the interval, despite the Blues being well in the game. However the Corries started to stamp their authority on the game in the second half, but it wasn’t until a further goal on 88 minutes seemed to seal the game despite the Blues having a great chance to go 2-1 up themselves. An own goal in injury time gave Blaenavon hope but it proved to be just a consolation in the end.

Our next game sees Caldicot Town host Tredegar Town with 9th v 16th. The visitors have lost their first seven games this season, losing 1-0 at home to Blaenavon Blues last time out in the league 1-0 at the Leisure Centre. However last Saturday they produced their best performance of the season to knock Abercarn United out of the Ardal Southern League Cup at home. Luke Morgan opened the scoring assisted by Andrew Martin after just 8 minutes, however the visitors were soon on level terms, equalising from the penalty spot on 21 minutes. However Tredegar were again back in front on the stroke of half time, Connor Evans setting up Tye Duggan to give the home side the interval league. Tredegar’s hopes of a morale boosting win took a turn for the good on 62 minutes when Abercarn had a player sent off and despite both sides having chances to add to the scoreline, it finished 2-1 to Tredegar and they are up and running. Caldicot are faring better having only lost twice this season. Last time out in the league they had a 1-1 home draw with Canton at Jubilee Way, equalising Cantons 50th minute opener a couple of minutes later through captain Richard Sharratt, assisted by Lewis Grant. Two weeks ago Caldicot travelled to West Wales in the JD Welsh Cup to face Penlan in Swansea. It was to be a productive day for Ben Donoghue who scored twice to put the visitors 2-0 up at Mynydd Newydd Playing Fields, thanks to two assists from 17 year old Ethan Bowles. However Penlan goals on 41 and 56 minutes salvaged a draw, and it was onto penalties, which Caldicot won 6-5. Last Saturday Caldicot produced one of their best performances of the season in the Ardal Southern Cup to beat Goytre 3-1 at Jubilee Way. Despite going a goal down after 31 minutes, Jake Isaac found an equaliser on 39 minutes to make the score 1-1 at the interval. The second half saw Caldicot take the lead on 67 minutes Richard Sharratt, setting up Ben Donoghue to find the net, while it was all but over on 74 minutes Matthew Swann assisting Lewis Grant to make the final score 3-1.

Our final game in the South East this week, sees Chepstow Town host Croesyceiliog, 5th place v 12th. The host team Chepstow are four games unbeaten, winning 5-1 home to Risca United in their last Ardal Southern league game. On the scoresheet was Adam Wakley (2), Finnan Maguire-Hamblett, and Jack Pearson-Brown (2), as Caldicot found themselves 2-0 up at the interval and 5-0 up after 69 minutes, with the visitors scoring an 89th minute consolation. Two weeks ago Chepstow travelled to West Wales in the JD Welsh Cup and put on another 5 goal performance, winning 5-3 against Bryn Rovers at Cae Criced. Omolojun Omotayo, Jack Pearson-Brown, Sonny Lewis, Deon Smith and substitute Daniel Drake found the scoresheet for the visitors, who were 3-0 and 4-1 up at certain points in the game despite having Ellis Quarterly sent off after 77 minutes for a second caution. While last Saturday Chepstow faced Abergavenny Town in the Ardal Southern league Cup and after a thrilling 2-2 draw in 90 minutes came out on top 5-4 in the penalty shootout. Two goals in the first 32 minutes put the visitors on the upper foot, but Chepstow came back scoring just before half time through Deon Smith and equalising on 52 minutes through Sonny Lewis to take the game to penalties. The visitors Croesyceiliog are on a poor run of form and have yet to win against since two successes in their first two games of the season. They lost 4-1 in the league three weeks ago at home to Abercarn United Luke Dyke scoring a consolation after the home side found themselves 4-0 down. While two weeks ago the JD Welsh Cup run ended for Croesyceiliog with a 4-2 defeat at AFC Llwydcoed. 2-0 down after 18 minutes, Croesyceiliog pulled a goal back on 23 minutes through Daniel Pritchard. 3-1 down after 68 minutes, Croesyceiliog again came back to 3-2 on 72 minutes, through Michael Passmore, but the home side finished the tie with a goal in the 89th minute at the Ron Jones Stadium. While last Saturday Croesyceiliog crashed out of the Ardal Southern League Cup, losing 5-2 at Treberbert BGC. After goals from Tom Hodge and Lewis Green, the visitors were well in the game at 2-2 on 56 minutes, but three late goals from the home side on 77, 82 & 86 minutes, sealed the tie at Baglan Field.
