History
Established in 1976 as Cefn Cribwr Boys Club, the club began playing in the Bridgend & District League and were back-to-back Premier Division champions in the 1986–87 and 1987–88 seasons, also winning the W.T John Open Cup in 1991.
They were founder members of the South Wales Senior League in the 1991–92 season, finishing in 10th position and played in the league until 2000 with little success, before returning to the Bridgend & District league. Here they won the Premier Division in 2013–14 also winning the W.T. John Open Cup that season after also winning it in 2001, 2006, 2008 and 2009. The club gained promotion to South Wales Senior League for its final season in 2014–15 finishing in eighth position. They then joined the newly established South Wales Alliance League Division Two in 2015–16, and after finishing third in the 2016–17 season, were promoted to Division One, where they finished their first season in the division as champions, with 22 wins out of 30 games to gain promotion to the Premier Division.
The next two seasons saw Cefn Cribwr have good seasons in the South Wales Alliance Premier Division finishing in 4th place in their first season and 7th in their second, which ended prematurely due to covid.
Following the formation of a limited company in July 2021, the club’s name was changed to Cefn Cribwr Football Club, to reflect “a club that was open to all”. After successfully applying for a Tier 3 licence, the club’s promotion to the third tier of Welsh Football was confirmed on 14 May 2022, after a 4-2 victory over Blaenrhondda saw the club finish as runners-up in the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division with 19 wins out of 30 games. Some achievement for a village of only around 1,500 people.
For the club to become an established Ardal Southern South West club would be an incredible achievement in itself. Well, it’s happened and who’s to ever say they couldn’t ever achieve the ‘impossible’ with another promotion at some point in the future. That has to be the aim for the club. To keep progressing both on and off the field. They have had two great seasons so far in the Ardal Southern, finishing in 5th place in their first season with 16 wins out of 30 and second place last season to qualify for the play-offs, with 18 wins out of 30 games under manager Scott Dryden. However they lost 2-1 to Newport City in the play-off final and will be looking to make amends this season. They have also reached two Ardal Southern Cup Finals, beating Garden Village 1-0 in 2023 and losing 3-2 to Swansea University last season.
As a result of Cae Gof being deemed unsuitable for the Ardal Southern League, the club’s First Team ground shared with Cambrian & Clydach Vale over the last two seasons, whilst improvements to their ground Cae Gof were made. However this season the club are now back home, playing their home games at the newly named Jewson Stadium.
