Saturday 20th April 2024, Latham Park, Newtown. Kick Off 12.30pm
This week one of our Ardal Southern clubs, Newport City make history by playing in the FAW Amateur Trophy Final for the first time, aiming to emulate the feat of last season’s winners Trethomas Bluebirds. Newport face Penrhyncoch at Latham Park, Newtown, in what should be a tight contest with Newport sitting in 3rd place in the Floodlighting & Electrical Ardal Southern, South East League, unbeaten for 23 games, including 21 wins, while Penrhyncoch play in the Lock Stock Ardal Northern Ardal, North East League, unbeaten for 24 games, including 20 wins and sit top of the table. Trethomas Bluebirds v Denbigh Town
Saturday 29th April 2023, Latham Park, Newtown. Kick Off 12.00pm
This week sees us preview the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy Final between Trethomas Bluebirds and Denbigh Town. The game takes place at Latham Park, in Newtown, with Trethomas looking to be the first ever Floodlighting & Electrical Ardal Southern side to lift the Trophy. Trethomas currently sit in third position in the South East Division as they look to secure the championship or a play-off place in competition with Risca United and Abertillery Bluebirds, while Denbigh Town play in the Lock Stock Ardal Northern North West Division and like their opponents sit in third position as they battle it out with Bangor 1876 and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 for promotion. The last ‘Welsh League’ side to win the Trophy was Abergavenny Town in 2016 when they beat Sully Sports 1-0 in the Final at Dragon Park in Newport, while Pontardawe Town reached the Final in 2019 but lost 4-0 to Cefn Albion at Park Avenue in Aberystwyth. This week sees us preview the Dragon Signs FAW Trophy Quarter Final between our last two Ardal Southern sides in the competition Trethomas Bluebirds who are in 3rd place in the South East Division and Baglan Dragons who are in 12th place in the South West Division and last season’s FAW Trophy Finalists. The game takes place at the Centre of Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach. Trethomas have beaten Sudbrook (6-0), Marshfield (5-0), Cardiff Airport (2-1), Undy Athletic (4-1) and Bangor 1876 (2-1) on the way to this seasons Sixth Round, while Baglan Dragons have seen off Evans & Williams (6-1), Clwb Cymric (2-0) and CPD Llanberis (1-0) after starting the competition late thanks to their exploits of last season where they were unlucky to lose 1-0 in the Final to Mold Alexandra at Caersws Recreation Ground.
